11 bit studios has announced The Alters: Last Variable, the first great narrative expansion The Alters, available from 13 July up PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series ♪. Designed as a new adventure lasting about 20 hours, Last Variable expands both the survival and narrative component that contributed to the success of the original title, winner of the DICE Award for Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year and candidate for BAFTA Awards for the best narrative. The expansion introduces a new perspective on the history of Jan Scientist, that this time awakens from the cryoson with one goal: to unravel the mystery of theOasis, a phenomenon that continues to challenge every law of science.

It's been years since Jan decided to stay on the planet, which in the meantime has changed deeply. Soon he understands that facing a challenge of this magnitude alone is impossible and then returns to do what he knows best: to create new versions of himself. This is the result of alternating scientific disciplines, including Geologist, Biologist, Chemistry and Physics, each with the skills necessary to address the many problems that the planet presents. The objective will be to transform completely inhospitable sectors into habitable environments through a complex process of ground, extracting and refining unknown substances, developing new technologies and unlocking increasingly advanced research levels. However, every progress will attract the response of the planet, which will react gradually increasing the level of threat with earthquakes, violent storms of radiation and numerous other events that can constantly test the survival of the team.
One of the central elements of expansion will be time management. The Alters will be able to take refuge in the new Field Labs, advanced laboratories that will allow to continue research activities also far from the base. However, spending long periods without resorting to the crioson will involve an inevitable aging of the protagonists, adding a new strategic dimension to the management of resources and missions. Even the narrative component will evolve further. In fact, every alter has its own vision of science and how to face the challenges of the planet. The ideological differences between the various Jan will risk turning into ever deeper conflicts, forcing the player to make difficult decisions that will affect the future of the entire scientific project and the legacy left by their own discoveries.
