PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions reveals an ambitious work plan with three projects in development!

Brendan Greene, the renowned creator of the battle royale mode, has announced that his studio, PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions, is working on an ambitious three-game project. The first step of this project was revealed today with the announcement of Prologue: Go Wayback! and the immediate launch of the free technical demo Preface: Undiscovered World, available on Steam. These titles represent the initial steps toward the studio’s final project: the massive multiplayer sandbox Artemis.

Prologue: Go Wayback!

The first leg of the plan, Prologue: Go Wayback!, is an open-world single-player survival game. The title will be built around a proprietary terrain-generation technology using machine learning, capable of creating millions of unique maps in real time.

The studio will soon involve the community with a series of playtest during the early stages of development. The goal is to launch the game on Early Access via Steam in the second quarter of 2025. In the meantime, players can already add Prologue: Go Wayback! to their wishlist on Steam to stay updated on future tests and developments.

Preface: Undiscovered World

Meanwhile, PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions has launched the free technical demo Preface: Undiscovered World, which gives a look at the studio’s internal graphics engine, called ‘Melba’. Available today on Steam, the demo showcases a planet-scale world generated in real time thanks to machine learning agents within the engine, directly on the user’s GPU.

Brendan Greene said: “In Preface, users can observe a digital world on a terrestrial scale generated in real time. It’s still quite empty, but every person who explores it and shares their feedback contributes to its future development.”

The future with Project Artemis

The studio’s final goal is the project ‘Artemis’, a large-scale multiplayer sandbox experience. Greene explained that the three planned games will serve to build a solid technological foundation for the final project. Following Prologue, the studio expects to launch two more titles in the coming years, each aimed at overcoming specific fundamental technical challenges required to complete Artemis.

Greene added: “My vision for Artemis is a challenge, but we want to proceed step by step. With Prologue, our goal is to engage players and introduce them to the emerging mechanics and the vast worlds we’re developing.”

A journey towards the future of gaming

With the announcement of Prologue: Go Wayback!, the release of the technical demo Preface: Undiscovered World and the promise of a revolutionary experience with Artemis, PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions invites players to join a visionary project aimed at redefining the concept of global digital worlds.

Biography

- Vice Direttore di KotaWorld.it
Noldor, also known as Commodore (long story, but for those who don't want to read the next 3 lines, let's say that Commodore rhymes with Noldóro), was born in a torrid August of '84. Fast-forward on childhood, at X years old (go remember how many!) he is woken up at night by his father who takes him to the dining room, where on a 13-inch black and white he sees Tetris loaded on a Commodore64 for the first time (understood now, right?).
