Square Enix has announced that the eagerly anticipated action RPG FINAL FANTASY XVI will release worldwide on 22 June 2023.
The news was handed to The Game Awards, during which producer Naoki Yoshida took to the stage to present the global premiere of a new trailer, titled "Vendetta", which corresponds to one of Clive’s motivations throughout the game’s story, set to release next year on PlayStation 5 (the platform on which the title will be temporarily exclusive).

FINAL FANTASY XVI tells a new dark fantasy story set in the FINAL FANTASY universe, this time in the kingdom of Valisthea, a land blessed by the light of the Mother Crystals. The peace of this world trembles when the spread of the Plague threatens to destroy the domains of the Crystals.
The fate of the world lies in the hands of the powerful Eikon and their Dominants, men and women capable of summoning their terrifying power. This is the story of Clive Rosfield, a warrior who has been granted the title of First Shield of Rosaria and who has sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, the Eikon of Fire. Soon, Clive will be drawn into a great tragedy and will swear vengeance upon the Eikon Ifrit, a dark and mysterious entity that brings with it great calamity.
With extraordinary characters and a rich, captivating story, FINAL FANTASY XVI will be available in a standard edition and three additional editions. The standard and Deluxe Editions are already available for pre-order, while the Collector’s Edition pre-order will be available Monday, December 12 at 19:00 on the SQUARE ENIX Store. Those who pre-order FINAL FANTASY XVI will receive two downloadable contents: The Cuorefiero Weapon and Cait Sith’s Portafortuna (an accessory that increases earned guil).
But what will this wonderful Collector’s Edition contain? Let’s take a look:
- Collection box: a wonderful metallic packaging featuring an illustration by the legendary artist Yoshitaka Amano;
- Game FINAL FANTASY XVI: physical edition of the base game, including a reversible cover;
- Premium Statue - Fenice vs Ifrit: a Premium statue depicting a battle between two Eikon, Fenice and Ifrit;
