A new nightmare is about to emerge from the analog hiss of old VHS tapes. Katanalevy and Oro Interactive have officially announced Video Ghastlies, a psychological survival horror arriving on Steam in 2025, promising to rewrite the rules of digital horror by drawing inspiration from the most iconic cinematic franchises of the genre.
In Video Ghastlies, players will take on the role of a desperate protagonist searching for their missing brother. The investigation will lead them into the heart of a mysterious government conspiracy and into a forbidden archive of cursed VHS tapes. Each VHS is a doorway into a distorted and hostile world, inspired by legendary eras of cinematic horror: from the gothic terror of the 1930s, to the body horror of the 1980s in Carpenter’s style, to Italian slasher films and the unsettling derivations of found footage. Each tape has its own aesthetic and logic, with unique monsters, disturbing environments, and puzzles to solve. The experience will be both a tribute to horror cinema and a journey into madness. Amid the multiversal delirium, the player will find a lifeline in their own apartment, the only safe place from which they can analyze clues, save progress, and prepare for the next leap into terror. A base of operations and mental anchor in a game that promises to be as unsettling as it is layered.
Among the main features, the game will offer cinematic exploration of unlockable worlds by inserting VHS tapes into the television, survival with limited resources and tools gathered from the fictional universes visited, unique enemies and bosses per world with associated puzzles and challenges, and finally the management of your own shelter as a narrative hub for progression.
