With great pleasure at your request, we’re republishing the video game list we recommended last year. Will they be scary enough this year too??
The aim of this article is to give you some ideas about which titles to play to celebrate being away from everyone and at your own discretion, near others on Discord or in harmony with yourselves, on any gaming platform and for any purpose, including a few free tips.
Games with friends:
We’ll set that aside immediately so we don’t think about it anymore:
Among US - The perfect game to play with your own team

A title that everyone, good or bad, has come to know is certainly a fitting choice this year, excellent for playing with friends up to 10 people.
Briefly, for those few who don’t know it, it’s a game in which 10 players must complete mini-games called “tasks” with the objective of arriving safely and soundly at their destination in your spaceship. Problem? Among you will be some “impostors” with the task of sabotaging and eliminating the crew. The extraction between crew members and impostors is random, and based on each individual’s behaviour, you must determine who they are and eject them into deep space (or even into lava…) to win.
Number of Players: from 4 to 10
Genre: co-op,
Platform: with your own smartphone or even on your grandmother’s PC
Horror meter: none, apart from discovering that your friends don’t mind killing you too much.
Recommended: for those who want to play a few simple matches with friends who don’t necessarily need a gaming machine and want to see how good they are at lying to the face of trust.
Price: Free on mobile! 4€ on Steam
Phasmophobia - For those who want a horror/investigative co-op game (Early Access)

Reviewed with a solid 7.8 by us, Phasmophobia is one of this year’s titles that has managed to stand out among the indie games. The trailer isn’t among the best, but it gives you a near-complete look at how to play.
Cooperative up to 4 players, you face a haunted location together with the objective of determining for the contract holder which malevolent entity is haunting it. Armed with ghost-scientific gadgets, you delve into searching for as many evidence as possible while avoiding death in the meantime. Indeed, if you persist too long in provoking the entity, it will turn against you, pursuing you and thus ending your miserable lives as ghost hunters, even though as the dead you can assist your friends by informing them of the ghost’s location, which, to be honest, isn’t exactly a pleasant spectacle…
Number of Players: up to 4
Genre: co-op, explorative, investigative, horror
Game platform: Mid-range PC, with VR mode also available!
Horror meter: Your heart will race in time with the lights in the room as the ghost chases you…
Recommended: Those who want to try the profession of a Ghost Hunter and learn to stay calm with friends.
Price: 11.60€ directly on Steam
Hunt: Showdown - the Battle Royale with monsters

Sparatutto of 2019, appreciated by both public and critics, successfully blends PvP and PvE dynamics (against other players and against computer-controlled enemies) in a Battle Royale centered on survival against abominations and hunting infernal beings, with a Far West touch that seems remarkably fitting.
Number of Players: 1 to 3
Genre: shooter, horror, survival, Battle Royale
Game platform: PS4, Xbox One, mid-tier PC
Horror meter: The atmosphere is utterly captivating; don't play it at night, or you'll dream of demonic beasts and some cowboys chasing you.
Recommended: A western shooter where you kill giant spiders and launch jars filled with bats at players to steal their bounty, fate vobis.
Price: 24€ for PC, 20€ Xbox One
In Silence - the Horror Co-Op of prey and predators (Early Access)
This content is provided by YouTube. To view it, you must allow external content. Activation may result in data being shared with the third party.
Co-Op, for now at early access, in which a group of five survivors tries to escape from the "Rake", describable as a rat-humanoid controlled by another player. The Rake's particularity is being almost blind and will be guided almost exclusively based on the sounds you make. The creature is horrifying in appearance, amplifying the anxiety you'll feel when being chased by it. The game blends single-survivor dynamics with group dynamics, in which a teammate's attack may give you the opportunity to gain some advantage for the team's benefit. Appreciable as you'll transform into mice even after being killed, allowing you to continue supporting your friends, distracting the Rake and signaling useful objects.
You can find it here, where it received a timid but decent 6.7 rating, mostly due to the issues caused by it not yet being a finished game.
Number of Players: up to 6
Genre: shooter, horror, co-op, survival.
Game platform: Mid-range PC.
Horror meter: The Rake is so horrifying that you’ll feel its stench through your PC.
Recommended: Those who, with their group of friends, want to experience the sensation of switching from predators to prey, eating their companions or surviving the bloody friend.
Price: €8.19 on Steam.
Games in autonomy:
Pumpkin Jack - When you say you’ve got a pumpkin on your head...
This content is provided by YouTube. To view it, you must allow external content. Activation may result in data being shared with the third party.
Making its debut just a few days ago, Pumpkin Jack is certainly a spiritual successor to Medievil and targets all those gamers, like me, who were deeply disappointed by not being able to tackle Sir Daniel Fortesque’s adventures on PC.
The game review will be published soon, but we can already state its intent to compete as this year’s Halloween game; having a character with a pumpkin for a face left little room for doubt…
Similarly to other titles in the genre such as Rachet & Clank, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, it is a 3D adventure platformer, in which by navigating through the level’s hazards, we must defeat the enemies that appear ahead and solve a few simple puzzles to reach the boss. From what we have been able to admire so far, it is certainly promising and indeed is already performing well at the sales.
Genre: Adventure, 3D Platformer,
Game platform: PS4, mid-range PC
Horror meter: The Halloween theme is all there, but there’s no fear.
Recommended: Fans of the genre looking for a new game, not a remastered title taken from the PS1.
Price: 15€
Outlast 2 - The classic horror game to keep you awake at night
This content is provided by YouTube. To view it, you must allow external content. Activation may result in data being shared with the third party.
Outlast 2 is a pure horror video game to the bone, so don't expect to fight the terrible death that will come looking for you; escaping is one of the solutions, but that won't be easily granted. Mandatory for everyone who wants to be taken by dread, you'll certainly find something to satisfy your teeth.
The gameplay style is a first-person investigative experience, but you’ll quickly realise from the story’s early twists that there’s nothing right in the world you’ll dive into — and from now on, you won’t be able to leave. Can you survive without all your hair turning white?
Genre: Horror, Horror, Horror.
Game platform: PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, low-end PC (1GB graphics card)
Horror meter: Say it’s at least a good week’s worth of nightmares.
Recommended: All those who desire a horror worthy of the genre.
Price: 13€ Xbox One, 5€ Steam discounts
Pony Island - It’s not all that innocent in life...
This content is provided by YouTube. To view it, you must allow external content. Activation may result in data being shared with the third party.
A charming and slightly corrupted indie from a few years ago, we recommend this solid title — fun, immediate — that pits the innocent magic of ponies against a demon from hell that takes over the game to reach your soul; alternatively, you’re left with only one option: defeat it by manipulating the rules yourself within its own game.
Genre: Horizontal scrolling game, Puzzle game.
Game platform: Your granny’s PC is still smoking here.
Horror meter: Psychological type, but aside from a bit of dread, it won’t weigh heavily on your nightmares.
Recommended: Those who enjoy seeing the corruption of innocent themes and want something calm that doesn’t require mastering command combos but just a good mouse and mental flexibility.
Price: 1.24€
Doki Doki Literature Club! - How are you doing mentally?

Half of you will already know it, the other half will hate me for having recommended it, but what better game than a Graphic Novel with such an innocent look to reignite your Halloween spirit??
Doki Doki Literature Club! is a psychological horror in which the game will try to invade your real lives by first making you relax while reading a fun little story, and then it will pierce you by putting you against the computer. Without any doubt, it’s a game you won’t forget, and one that has already made history in its genre. Plus, it’s free!
Genre: Graphic Adventure, Psychological Horror
Game platform: PC that can open YouTube
Horror meter: oooh, it’ll be interesting to see how much you’ll get involved
Recommended: In reality, nobody, but it’s one of those games that sooner or later everyone talks about, a bit like Shining, you won’t be the only one who hasn’t played it, will you?
Price: Free!
