Less than a few weeks remain until the release of Grand Theft Auto VI and Sony has shared new information to help players prepare for the arrival of the much-anticipated title from Rockstar Games. Through an update published on the PlayStation Blog, the company has confirmed that the pre-download of GTA 6 will be available from 10 November 2026 on PlayStation 5, allowing those who have pre-ordered the digital version to download the game in advance ahead of the official launch, scheduled for 19 November.
The pre-download will begin at midnight on 10 November, local time, allowing Italian players to start downloading without having to wait further. A particularly important consideration given the size of the new chapter, which is anticipated to be far from lightweight: according to official PlayStation guidance, users will need at least 212 GB of free space on their PS5 to prepare for installation. A decidedly demanding requirement, which may force many users to do a bit of cleanup in their digital library.
The amount of space required confirms that Grand Theft Auto VI is destined to be a particularly demanding title in terms of storage. It is nonetheless important to clarify that the 212 GB indicated by Sony represent the recommended free space for preparing the pre-download, and not necessarily the final installed size of the game. The latter may indeed differ depending on the downloaded files and any potential updates distributed near the release. To avoid unpleasant surprises, PlayStation therefore advises checking in advance the available memory on the console, considering potentially removing less-used titles or expanding the storage space via a compatible SSD. Given the immense interest surrounding the new chapter of the saga, completing the download before the launch will represent a non-negligible advantage, especially for those with a non-particularly fast Internet connection.
Sony has also reminded users that Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders are already available via PlayStation Store and participating retailers. Among the available editions is the Ultimate Edition, which includes an exclusive selection of premium vehicles, weapons, clothing, and additional content tied to the adventure of Jason and Lucia, the two protagonists of Rockstar’s new production. Interested users can consult the digital store directly to learn the differences between the various editions and their respective prices.
The announcement of the pre-download marks another step toward one of the most anticipated video game releases of the past few years. More than thirteen years since the release of Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games is finally preparing to bring players back into the criminal universe of Vice City and the state of Leonida, with a new open-world adventure that promises to further expand the series’ narrative and technological ambitions. As the release date approaches, PlayStation has confirmed that further updates dedicated to the game will be shared, while players can already begin preparing space on their consoles to avoid being unprepared at launch time.
