Capcom has announced the arrival of Monster Hunter Wilds on Nintendo Switch 2, releasing a free demo that lets you try out the new chapter of the series before its official launch. The full game will be available from 4 December 2026 and is already pre-orderable via the Nintendo eShop.
The trial version includes the early stages of the adventure in the Forbidden Lands, allowing you to create your own hunter, customise your Palico companion, and face some of the monsters in the game. Progress made will carry over to the full version, so you can continue your story without having to start again from the beginning.
Monster Hunter Wilds, what does the demo on Nintendo Switch 2
The demo includes the story's opening and allows you to explore the Windy Plains, one of the settings in Monster Hunter Wilds. During this first expedition, you'll encounter some creatures, try out the weapons, and get familiar with the combat system.
Before you begin, players will be able to use the character creation system to customise their hunter and Palico companion, who will accompany them on their adventures. This is a first taste of the core mechanics, useful even for those who have never played any chapter of the series.
The demo version, however, has a multiplayer limitation. It can only be used offline, but on Nintendo Switch 2, local wireless sessions with nearby players will still be possible.
Progresses carry over to the full game
One of the most convenient features of the trial version is the ability to retain progress made after purchasing the full game. Those who decide to continue the adventure after December 4 can therefore pick up where they left off, without having to repeat the early stages.
For those still undecided about buying, this opportunity lets you test whether the combat system and hunt structure suit your preferences. Monster Hunter Wilds centres on battles against large creatures, demanding careful attention to enemy movements and precise equipment choices.
Pre-orders open and bonuses for those who buy early
In view of its release, Monster Hunter Wilds is already available to pre-order on Nintendo eShop. Those who place their pre-order by 3 December 2026 will receive a discount for early buyers, along with two bonus contents.
