Electronic Arts officially announced EA SPORTS NHL 27, the new chapter of the famous ice hockey simulation. The title will be available from11 September 2026 up PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series ♪, with one of the most important developments ever made for the series.
This time the focus is mainly on immersion. EA Sports has completely renovated the 32 official NHL arenas, introducing customized presentations for each team, a new dynamic system for the public, an updated telechronic and a modern TV package.
Among the most important news we also find Connected Franchise, online mode requested by the community for over ten years, and the use of real data NHL to more differentiate the behaviour of teams on ice.
To represent this new generation of the franchise will be Macklin Celebrities, young star of the San Jose Sharks chosen as cover athlete of the Standard and Deluxe editions.
The 32 NHL arenas have been completely renewed
The main novelty of SPORTS NHL 27 concerns the atmosphere of the matches.
Electronic Arts has worked to make each of the 32 arenas immediately recognizable, trying to reproduce the sound, show and identity of its home team.
Among the elements introduced we find:
- specific pre-party presentations for each franchise;
- official songs played after the goals;
- customized lighting of arenas;
- traditions and rituals characteristic of individual teams;
- a dynamic system for the behaviour of the public;
- a new graphic design for the television presentation.
The goal is to ensure that each building has its own identity, avoiding the feeling of playing games always within the same structure with different graphic elements.
The audience will be more alive and will react to the game
An important part of the work concerned the behavior of spectators.
The new dynamic system will allow the public to react more crediblely to the events on the ice, changing the intensity of the typhus according to the result, decisive moments and the general trend of the encounter.
A setback, a goal in the final minutes or a negative performance of the home team should therefore produce different reactions, contributing to make each game more engaging.
Each team will have its own identity
The novelties do not only concern the aesthetic component.
Thanks to the actual data provided by NHL and in the presence of specific playbooks, teams should play more similar to their real counterparts.
The differences will affect different aspects:
- offensive schemes;
- defensive organization;
- rhythm of play;
- power play management;
- strategies used in special situations;
- overall tactical behavior of the team.
The slogan chosen by EA Sports, Every Team Has an Edge, emphasizes precisely the desire to assign to each formation a more evident and recognizable identity.
Connected Franchise is finally reality
After over ten years of community requests, in NHL 27 finally debuts the mode Connected Franchise.
The new experience will create and administer a shared online league with a maximum of 32 teams controlled by real players.
Among the features announced are:
- creation of custom online alloys;
- complete management of rosters;
- flexible calendars;
- advanced tools for commissioners;
- possibility to customize and organize the competition;
- shared management of all NHL franchises.
According to Electronic Arts, Connected Franchise was designed to evolve over time by following community suggestions and needs.
New telechronic team
The audio and television sector will also receive a substantial update.
The new telescope SPORTS NHL 27 will be entrusted to:
- John Buccigross;
- Darren Pang.
The new team will accompany the matches through an updated telechrome, inserted within a more modern TV package.
The goal is to create a presentation that can adapt more to the situations of play and the characteristics of the different teams.
Macklin Celebrini is the cover athlete
The face chosen for the covers of Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition is Macklin Celebrities, attacker of San Jose Sharks and one of the main representatives of the new generation of NHL talents.
Celebrini praised the reconstruction of the SAP Center, also known as Shark Tank.
"See the Shark Tank reproduced in this way is really amazing. The entrance through the head of the shark, the lighting of the places and our song after each goal make everything look exactly like a real game. "
Celebrini’s choice reflects EA Sports’s desire to inaugurate a new phase of the series, entrusting the image to one of the most representative young players in the championship.

Mike Inglehart, Senior Game Design Director of EA SPORTS NHL 27, explained that the goal of developers is to immediately perceive changes as soon as the player enters the ice.
"Every atmosphere and every element of the television presentation were designed to authentically communicate the identity of the team. We can’t wait for players to experience the energy of the new chapter directly. "
EA Sports therefore seems to want to focus on immediately visible changes and not only on small updates of existing modes.
Deluxe Edition and early access
Who will book Deluxe Edition of EA SPORTS NHL 27 can start playing with seven days in advance compared to the official publication.
