Samsung has announced today the release of the SSD 990 EVO, the latest addition to the company’s consumer SSD line, offering high performance with improved energy efficiency. Designed to enhance everyday computing experiences, such as gaming, work, and video/photo editing, this NVMe SSD unit is intended to be the ideal solution for consumers.

The 990 EVO delivers improved performance up to 43% compared to the previous model, the 970 EVO Plus. Sequential read speeds reach up to 5,000 megabytes per second (MB/s), and write speeds up to 4,200 MB/s. Random read and write speeds have also been improved, reaching a maximum of 700K input/output operations per second (IOPS) and 800K IOPS respectively. By using the Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology to connect directly to the host processor’s DRAM, the SSD can guarantee optimised performance even in systems without DRAM. Users transitioning from previous traditional SSDs will experience significantly faster game loading times and quicker access to large files.
Samsung 990 EVO has improved energy efficiency by up to 70% compared to the 970 EVO Plus, enabling users to extend their usage on PC without the constant worry about battery life. It also supports Modern Standby1, enabling instant on/off functionality with uninterrupted internet connectivity and notifications, even in low-power states. The 990 EVO’s heat dissipation label effectively manages the NAND chip’s thermal conditions, allowing applications to run continuously at peak performance without compromising the drive’s integrity.
990 EVO is a multifunctional SSD designed to meet current processing demands and anticipate future ones.
