Samsung has unveiled today T5 EVO, a lightweight portable Solid-State Drive (SSD) offering up to 8 terabytes (TB) of capacity, the largest currently available in the sector.

"The T5 EVO was designed to meet the needs of a wide range of consumers with different lifestyles. Its up to 8TB capacity, superior speed, compact design, and external shock protection make it suitable for users who need to store and access data anywhere and at any time".
Based on USB 3.2 Gen 1, T5 EVO transfers data up to 3.8 times faster than external HDDs and delivers maximum performance through sequential read and write speeds up to 460 megabytes per second (MB/s), making it easier to transfer large files.
The design concept of the T5 EVO is "Compact and Ergonomic". The portable SSD is designed to offer a new experience with an ergonomic design that, for the first time, makes it slightly larger than a credit card, while still maintaining compact and lightweight characteristics. Measuring 95 mm in width, 40 mm in length, and 17 mm in thickness, it means consumers can have a portable 8TB storage device small enough to hold in one hand. This combination of compact dimensions and large memory provides users with greater speed, equivalent capacity, and a smaller, lighter body — compared to an external HDD. Weighing 102 grams, the thoughtfully designed product delivers a sense of reliability due to its robustness.
T5 EVO also features a black body and a titanium grey ring, giving it a premium and elegant feel with monochromatic tones that naturally harmonise when placed alongside other host devices of grey. T5 EVO can be easily attached to any bag or luggage thanks to its ring design. Furthermore, the metal structure and rubberised surface provide extra protection against external impacts — including drops up to two metres.
Practical in design, T5 EVO is no less capable in terms of memory capacity. With storage capacity up to 8TB of data, T5 EVO can host large files, high-resolution videos, photos, and games, making it suitable for both work and leisure. An 8TB T5 EVO can store more than 2 million photos at 3.5MB each, 1.8 million music files at 4MB, or 3,500 videos at 2GB each.
The new portable SSD prioritises security through thermal protection technology and hardware data encryption. Samsung’s Dynamic Thermal Guard technology protects against overheating and maintains optimal operating temperatures, in compliance with the international safety standard IEC 62368-1. Additionally, the portable SSD supports 256-bit AES hardware data encryption, ensuring users enjoy security and reliability when storing their data.
T5 EVO is compatible with a range of operating systems and host devices, including macOS, Windows, smartphones/tablets, and gaming consoles. T5 EVO also comes with the software Samsung Magician, which offers a full suite of drive management features, including real-time drive health monitoring, the authentication function, performance benchmarking, and firmware updates.
The price is £229.99 for the 2TB, £429.99 for the 4TB and £809.99 for the 8TB. The T5 EVO will be available for purchase from December.
