In conjunction with the 15th anniversary of the release of the first game by The Witcher, CD PROJEKT RED has announced today that The Witcher Remake is currently in development and has also shared the first details about the project.
The remake is nothing more than the famous codename "Canis Majoris" of which we had spoken at the start of October, when CDPR revealed on Twitter all the projects underway in the studio. The remake will be a modern reimagining of The Witcher (2007), the first game in the acclaimed trilogy of role-playing games by CD PROJEKT RED. The title will be built from scratch using the technology Unreal Engine 5 and will utilise the toolset CDPR is developing for the new Witcher saga. The project is currently in its early development stages at Fool's Theory, a game development studio specialising in role-playing games. The team employs numerous veteran developers who previously worked on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with CD PROJEKT RED providing full creative oversight.

“The Witcher is where it all began for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we ever made, and it was a huge moment for us back then. Going back and remaking the game so the next generation of players can experience it seems truly a massive, enormous ambition”, said Adam Badowski, Head of Studio, CD PROJEKT RED. “Working with Fool’s Theory on this project is equally exciting, as they are some of the people who were previously involved in The Witcher games. They understand the starting material well, know how eager players were to see the remake, and know how to create incredible, ambitious games. And even if it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about the game, I’m certain it’s worth waiting for”.
"I'm very happy that my professional path has once again crossed with fellow developers, since I worked together on The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3. Especially when it comes to a remake of a project that we care so deeply about", said Jakub Rokosz, CEO, Fool's Theory. "We're excited to team up with CD PROJEKT RED and our goal is to offer players another fantastic game from the iconic The Witcher series".
