Today SQUARE ENIX has announced the release of FINAL FANTASY XVI, the eagerly anticipated new chapter in the acclaimed FINAL FANTASY series, on PlayStation 5.
FINAL FANTASY XVI is the first pure-action role-playing game (RPG) in the series, blending dynamic real-time action combat with RPG features to deliver an incredibly thrilling gaming experience. The goal of the Creative Business Unit III's star development team, led by Naoki Yoshida, producer of FINAL FANTASY XIV Online, Naoki Yoshida, was to create a FINAL FANTASY game suitable for players of all generations, appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers. Another strong point of the game is its accessibility, with the addition of "quick" accessories, allowing players to customise difficulty through gear tailored to different playstyles.
Another innovative feature is the Current Times Story (STC). You can access the Current Times Story at any point in the game, even during cutscenes, to learn more about the world and characters on screen or that you’ve just met, with over 2800 voiceovers that delve into the story of Valisthea and its inhabitants.
With over a million downloads, the FINAL FANTASY XVI demo, now available, is the perfect chance to dive into the kingdom of Valisthea and experience the beginning of the epic story of protagonist Clive Rosfield. In the demo, you can play through the game’s prologue to learn more about Clive’s ambitions and goals, as he witnesses a tragic event that drives him to seek vengeance. Progress made in this part of the demo can be carried over to the full game. Additionally, completing the prologue will also grant you access to a special combat section featuring various unlocked abilities, allowing you to jump straight into thrilling battles and test a wide range of devastating attacks and combos.
FINAL FANTASY XVI tells a new dark fantasy story set in the FINAL FANTASY universe, this time in the kingdom of Valisthea, a land blessed by the light of the Mother Crystals. Peace in this world wavers as the spread of the Plague threatens to destroy the domains of the Crystals. The fate of the world rests in the hands of the powerful Eikons and their Dominants — men and women capable of summoning their terrifying power. This is the story of Clive Rosfield, a warrior who has been granted the title of First Shield of Rosaria and who has sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, the Fire Eikon. Soon, Clive will be drawn into a major tragedy and vow vengeance against the Eikon Ifrit, a dark and mysterious entity that brings with it great calamity.
