Gaijin Entertainment has announced that Line of Contact, the new major update for War Thunder, arrives at the end of December and will introduce the first closed beta for a completely new mode. For the first time in the game’s history, infantry will fight side by side with modern ground and air vehicles in specially designed urban scenarios. Public testing is scheduled for 2026.

The mode will introduce dedicated maps, built from scratch to host close-quarters combat and coordinated maneuvers among infantry, armored vehicles, and air support. In the Closed Beta, participants will be able to field two nations — the United States and the USSR/Russia — each equipped with pre-defined modern weaponry. As with other game modes, Gaijin will progressively expand the roster with additional nations, maps, and military vehicles in future updates. Infantry squads will have access to a full arsenal: assault rifles such as M4A1, M16A4, M7, AK-74, AK-12 and ASM Val, light machine guns like M249 Para and RPK-74M, precision rifles including M110A1 SDMR and SVD-M, MAC-11 and PP-19 Bizon submachine guns, plus grenades, rocket launchers, MANPADS systems, reconnaissance drones and FPV drones. On the battlefield, they will also benefit from the most iconic ground and air vehicles of both sides: M1 Abrams and T-72B, M3A3 Bradley and BMP-3, and helicopters AH-64A and Mi-24V.
Line of Contact will also include new maps, dozens of new vehicles and numerous improvements to the existing modes , consolidating one of the most ambitious updates yet delivered for War Thunder.
