ATLUS dominated the centre of the stage during the Summer Game Fest, captivating the audience with two revolutionary announcements for the eagerly anticipated Metaphor: ReFantazio. Last week, fans witnessed the hypnotic trailer “AWAKEN”, which offers a tantalising glimpse into the immersive universe of the game. Additionally, an exclusive livestream, hosted by director Katsura Hashino, provided a detailed exploration of the game’s mechanics and Archetypes, laying the groundwork for its highly anticipated release on 11 October 2024, for Xbox Series X|S, Windows, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Steam.

The trailer for “AWAKEN” was presented on stage by the game’s Director, Katsura Hashino (known for Persona 3, 4 and 5), alongside the Art Designer Shigenori Soejima (also known for Persona 3, 4 and 5).

During the weekend, ATLUS hosted a new livestream featuring director Katsura Hashino, who explored the game’s rich systems with a focus on Archetypes — the special powers of characters that awaken in various ways, offering players many customization options.During the stream, Hashino-san explained how Archetypes branch and evolve throughout the player’s journey, describing the 14 base lineages of Archetypes and adding each Archetype’s variants, resulting in over 40 Archetypes available.
Hashino-san also outlined the design goals of the team and how they reflect in the way the Archetypes interact with the rest of the game. The dungeons in Metaphor: ReFantazio encourage players to think creatively and strategically about which Archetypes to use and how to use them.
