Wizards of the Coast has published today The Machine Age, the new set for the first and most famous trading card game in the world, Magic: The Gathering. The final episode of the four-part narrative arc that featured Phyrexia, legendary creatures and Planeswalkers from across the Multiverse will see players ally with to fight against the Phyrexian invasion. The set was released on Arena on April 18 and is being launched today in its printed version.
All worlds will know perfection
Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines and leader of the Phyrexian army, has gathered an invasion force to conquer the entire Multiverse in one go. Now she expands her influence to bring the glory of New Phyrexia to other planes, in an attempt to complete all beings.
Final Resistance
Recruited by an heroic squad of Planeswalkers, the legends of all planes of existence must ally and team up to fight the scourge of Phyrexia. Iconic characters from the entire history of Magic will unite for the final showdown; in-game, the fate of their world and all other worlds of the Multiverse hangs in the balance.
Machine Advance introduces several new mechanics, the most exciting being a brand-new card type: Battle. Battles are a new kind of double-faced card: when you play a battle, choose an opponent to protect it. Like Planeswalkers, Battles can be damaged or attacked, and when defeated, transform into a powerful new free card! This is the first new card type since the debut of Planeswalkers in 2007; players can expect a new thrilling gameplay experience.
Machine Advance also features the Reinforce mechanic, based on creatures, which allows players to add +1/+1 counters and gain additional abilities based on the creature providing the counter. Fans of the Phyrexian army can also play with the Nurseries, artifacts that enter with a certain number of +1/+1 counters and can be transformed into creatures by paying two mana.
Both product lines Jumpstart and Commander return for Machine Advance, with five exhilarating Commander deck themes:
- Phyrexian Cats
- Zhalfir Knights
- Shaman Creatures
- Summon the Angels
- Gremlin Artifacts
Five new themes have also been introduced in the Jumpstart packs:
- Nestled
- Success accumulator
- Sacrificable
- Reinforcement
- Support

To capture the battles unfolding across the Multiverse, L’Avanzata delle Macchine presents the most spectacular artistic styles seen so far: all recent set frames will be featured, alongside new frames designed to represent additional plans. These frames will primarily focus on Leggende del Multiverso: legendary teams of creatures fighting against Phyrexia’s invasion.
Furthermore, in the set there will be a new type of foil process. The new motif Nimbo Foil will appear only on Multiverse Legends cards, in Collector Boosters. Finally, celebrations continue for Magic’s 30th anniversary with the release of three more promotional cards in WPN stores, to celebrate the launch of L’Avanzata delle Macchine.
