Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak available today on consoles and PC

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, the much-anticipated expansion of the acclaimed Monster Hunter Rise by Capcom that has sold over 12 million copies, is now available worldwide for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox OneWindows, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. This expansion of Monster Hunter Rise transports players to the distant Kingdom, where they must follow a new story, fight new monsters, master new combat options, explore new locations, conquer the Grado Maestro mission difficulty, and experience other exciting features.

The story of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak begins immediately after the heroic defence of the Kamura village in Monster Hunter Rise. The valiant Dame Fiorayne, inspired by news of the village’s survival, decides to travel in search of help beyond the distant Kingdom. The bravest hunters set off for Elgado’s forward outpost. This research and command centre is responsible for ending the threat looming over the Kingdom. At the top of the target list are powerful creatures inspired by classic Western horror, known as the Three Lords: the ancient dragon Malzeno, the powerful and massive Garangolm and the Lunagaron, resembling an ice wolf. Aside from these nightmare foes, there are new monster variants and fan favourites, including Magnamalo the Grumpy, Espinas and Shagaru Magala, all ready to challenge the hunters in the difficulty of the newly added Master Grade mission.

To face these calamitous forces head-on, hunters arriving at Elgado’s forward outpost must find new ways to fight. Even though Kamura village is famed for its unique techniques, including Fildiseta attacks and wyvern riding, hunters will learn new Swap abilities for all 14 weapons. Moreover, hunters can now rely on two different Swap ability sets, which can be switched on the fly during the hunt. The greater flexibility that lets players choose which abilities are best for each situation enables an experienced hunter to overcome nearly all obstacles. Hunters under attack during a Swap ability switch can also perform a Swap dodge in any direction to avoid danger or reposition for a continuous assault.

The mission tied to the Three Lords takes hunters across the kingdom to new and reimagined locations, including the newly revealed Citadel and the Jungle, which is making a return. The Citadel boasts snow-scoured peaks that cascade into lush forests teeming with endemic life. At the heart of this vast region stands an abandoned fortress serving as a stronghold, built to keep monsters at bay. Furthermore, the Jungle returns for the second generation of Monster Hunter titles, boasting a warm climate with abundant rainfall, making it a paradise for monsters and plant life.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak allows players to bond with the game's captivating cast of characters through new modes and new Follower Missions. These solo hunts let players accept and complete missions with their favourite story characters. Each follower has their own specialisation and will even assist players by restoring their health, setting traps and even riding monsters to turn the tide of battle. Members of Elgado's outpost, such as Fiorayne, Luchika, Jae, Admiral Galleus and Master Arlow, are now available as followers, alongside members of Kamura village, including Hinoa and Minoto. Players unlock followers as they progress through the story and can even earn exclusive rewards for completing Follower Missions.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is available today on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox OneWindows, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 with all post-launch content up to the free update 3 (Ver.13), which includes brutal encounters like Chaotic Gore Magala. Details regarding future free updates to the title will be revealed later.

Lorenzo "WaR" Agonigi was born in the now too distant 1995 and already three years later, in 1998, he began his gaming career, with a flaming Nintendo 64. I have to be honest, I wasn't a pro gamer right from the start, so much so that my first experiences more than as a gamer were as a spectator: while my parents, in turn, played, I enjoyed watching them (hey, I invented Twitch ten years in advance!!).
