Diablo IV has had the best sales week in the history of Blizzard, surpassing a promising global sales figure of $666 million in the first week after its launch on June 6. The final chapter of the Diablo series, the Blizzard game that sold fastest ever, is equivalent to the box office of the biggest opening week of the year.
The heroes and heroines of Sanctuarium, the world in which Diablo is set, have already played for more than 276 million hours, or more than 30,000 years.
"From Blizzard, we want to thank the millions of players and players around the world who have immersed themselves in Diablo IV", said Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard Entertainment. "Diablo IV is the result of our incredible teams, who collaborate to create and support games that have defined the genre, build legendary worlds and inspire memories that will last a lifetime. We are honoured by the public's response, very proud of our team and will continue to engage by listening to our players and ensuring that Diablo continues to exceed their expectations for years to come."
So, what have players and players done during all this time spent in Diablo IV?
- 276 billion of demons slain from Early Access: nearly 35 times the global population.
- Players have been defeated more than 316 million times
- ...over 5 million of these defeats occurred at the hands of the Butcher
- But they're not alone: players have organised parties with friends over 166 million times
- 163 players have reached the maximum level in Hardcore mode, where deaths are permanent
When the community didn't play Diablo IV, they followed it online: Diablo IV was the number one game on Twitch from Early Access June 1 to June 9, beating Blizzard's own records for streaming hours and viewing hours during a similar period.
