Exoprimalbegins in 2040, when dinosaurs reappear worldwide and threaten humanity’s existence. To save the situation, the powerful Aibius Corp. deploys its next-generation artificial intelligence Leviathan. This artificial intelligence can predict where dinosaur infestations will occur and send Exofighter units to protect the area. These warriors wear advanced armour known as Exocorazze, representing humanity’s greatest hope. The story takes place three years later, when a patrol unit of Exofighter called Hammerheads crashes onto a remote island and Leviathan uses them as test subjects in a deadly game.
The competition unfolds in the main game mode, Dino Survival. In these combat trials, two teams of five Exofighter compete to complete various objectives before their opponents, fighting against packs of dinosaurs. Dino Survival missions vary from match to match depending on player progression. Some matches pit teams against each other, while others require rivals to team up to defeat major threats such as the monstrous Neo T. Rex. Dino Survival also offers the option to choose between player-versus-player (PvP), player-versus-environment (PvE), and casual matches.

Choices also extend to the armour players can wear in combat. Exoprimal features a arsenal of 10 Exocorazze, each of which possesses a set of unique abilities. Divided into assault, tank and support classes, each Exocorazza has a distinct role in confronting the dinosaur threat and aiding the team. Exofighters can also switch Exocorazze at any time during battle to adapt to the constantly shifting battlefield conditions. Players can tailor their playstyle using gear called Rig, which grants Exocorazze additional abilities ranging from increased firepower and defence to greater mobility and healing powers. These modules allow Exofighters to enhance their Exocorazze and customise their combat performance.
As players progress in Dino Survival, they will unlock new Exocorazze, gear, cosmetic items, and narrative content. The story of the Hammerheads crew will unfold through missions, cutscenes, and "lost data". This information includes audio recordings, documents, and more that can be assembled in the Analysis Map to solve the mystery behind the conflicts and dinosaur outbreaks.

Capcom is supporting Exoprimal with substantial post-launch updates that add significant new features, starting with a new mode. Savage Gauntlet will launch on 28 July 2023 and will introduce a challenging PvE experience with weekly rotating missions that can be replayed to earn higher rankings and rewards. Update 1 of the title arrives on 17 August 2023 with 10 Exocorazze in Alpha variant, offering new ways to play in Dino Survival and Savage Gauntlet. Future updates will include collaborations with Street Fighter 6 and Monster Hunter, Exocorazze in Beta variant, new enemies, stages, missions, and more.
Available digitally is also the "Deluxe Edition" of Exoprimal, which includes the "Initial Advantage Kit" and the "Survival Pass Season 1: Premium Tier" as limited-time bonuses. The "Initial Advantage Kit" contains three additional Exocorazze skins and early unlock tickets for the Exocorazze Nimbus, Vigilant and Murasame. These Exocorazze can also be unlocked through the game with the Standard Edition. The Survival Pass rewards players for their progress in the game and includes free and premium tiers. The Premium tier of Season 1 offers 19 additional Exocorazze skins, 10 weapon skins, 4 emotes, 3 stickers and more.
