Set in a dark supernatural reinterpretation of 19th century Europe, Valor Mortis puts players in the shoes William, a soldier of the Great Armée brought to life after death. Thanks to a mysterious corruption that flows in its veins, the protagonist gets supernatural powers that allow him to face a continent now devastated by a terrible plague. The new trailer focuses on the relationship between William and his emperor. Napoleon, whose voice will accompany the protagonist during the journey, warns the soldier about the newly acquired powers and asks a question destined to become the core of the narrative: how much are you willing to sacrifice to gain power?
On the front of the gameplay, Valor Mortis aims to distinguish itself within the Soulslike landscape thanks to a completely in-person view. One More Level takes advantage of the experience gained with Ghostrunner to build a fast, technical and highly lethal combat system based on stem management, precise parades and ability to slave enemy attacks at the right time. The arsenal will mix historical and fantasy elements. Players can use typical weapons of the Napoleonic era, such as Stocks and Focaia stone guns, combining them with devastating supernatural abilities. This dual nature of the protagonist will create an extremely dynamic fighting style, alternating close hits, distance attacks and special powers. Exploration will also play a central role. The developers speak of a structure inspired by Metroidvania, characterized by interconnected paths, environmental secrets and new skills that will allow to reach previously inaccessible areas. During the adventure you will have to face the terrifying Eternal Guard, an army corrupted by the same plague that brought William to life.
From an artistic point of view, Valor Mortis proposes a dark and theatrical aesthetic, made of devastated battlefields, European cities in ruins and mountain landscapes surrounded by death and decay. To contribute to the atmosphere will also be a high-level soundtrack, co-composed by Arkadiusz Reikowski, already author of music by Silent Hill 2 Remake, The Medium and Layers of Fear, together with the internal composer of the studio Oskar Bała.
