Darq - A sad game, but really nice

Darq. The name says it all. Welcome to the tetro world, with the colors off, where even the expression of the protagonist, Lloyd is equally uncommon. The game immediately presents itself as a horror, although to tell it all the moments when I jumped from the chair were really few. What is moving from the screen, to which you will be stuck for all in a handful of hours (the strong point of Darq is not longevity), is a mood of restlessness, which will become real anxiety as you proceed in the game.

Despite the underlying sadness, the title of Unfold Games is an artistic gem that paints a particular story (I don’t want to dwell on the explanation also because there are millions of sources to draw to get it), to which I would prefer that you arrived through the gaming experience. To make you enjoy Darq you need to be a fan of puzzle games, in which case you will find in this indie a very refreshing gameplay concept, if compared to similar videogames (it immediately comes to mind “Little Nightmares” – which I loved). Apart from the minigames, where you will have to solve this or that puzzle by pulling levers, finding objects, etc... you will find that the world itself in which you are immersed is a kind of great puzzle to solve... looking at things from another perspective.

There is no confrontation with the enemies in Darq, more than anything else you will have to escape from the various “moisters” that infest Lloyd’s perennial nightmare and sometimes (poor) rhythms will also be tightened. The game is divided into seven chapters, playable also as single episodes, two of which are now free on Steam. We tried the version PC and always on the platform of Valve the price is around 17€ (always on the date of writing and publication of the review). Maybe a little salty, considering that you could end it in a couple of days, but surely a good advice for shopping if on promotion. Not by chance the judgment of the general criticism (and I do not refer only to Steam) is very positive. Darq is also available for Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo Switch.

Noldor, also known as Commodore (long story, but for those who don't want to read the next 3 lines, let's say that Commodore rhymes with Noldóro), was born in a torrid August of '84. Fast-forward on childhood, at X years old (go remember how many!) he is woken up at night by his father who takes him to the dining room, where on a 13-inch black and white he sees Tetris loaded on a Commodore64 for the first time (understood now, right?).
